Our Story

Carlee Farm is owned and operated by John and Gena Stephens. Carlee Farm is located in Granville County, in close proximity to the RDU area. It is a working farm that has donkeys, goats and soon to have bees and chickens, not that those really go together, but John wants bees, and Gena wants chickens! We are new at this thing called farming, and are always seeking ways to keep this beautiful place as a working farm. John and Gena met in 2007 and were married in 2009. They have a total of six children, combined. Once all the children were off to college, they sold their home and most of their belongings located in Raleigh, N.C. and purchased the land which has become Carlee Farm. Gena was born and raised in Knightdale, North Carolina. She graduated from East Wake High School in 1985. John will admit that he is from Pennsylvania, and is married to a Southern Belle! He moved to Raleigh, N.C. in 1995 and is a Penn State Alumni!

Carlee Farm is a combined dream for both John and Gena. John is an avid hunter, and wanted a peaceful place where he could hunt, fish and live. Gena loves to entertain, cook and longed for country living once again. So, one day while out driving, they found this property, made an offer, (and yes… they bought the farm) and were able to name the street, farm and finally start their combined dreams. Carlee, who is their beloved dog they adopted in 2010 from a shelter was given a legacy, which is a farm and a street in her name! Per Gena’s idea, they moved into an RV, and lived with no running water, or electricity for 2.5 years! The motto that has stuck with them through all of this is, “it’s all part of the dream”! So,whether it is something wonderful, or not so wonderful, it is all a part of their dream and makes their love story a lil’ sweeter every time!
